The Board of Strategic Natural Resources plc (AIM:SNRP) is pleased to announce that the Company has completed the conditional placing of 5.0 million new ordinary shares of 1p each (the “Placing Shares”) at a price of 21.6 pence per share, raising £1,080,000 for the Company (the “Placing”). All of the Placing Shares have been subscribed for by Cooch 1095 Limited, a Company nominated in accordance with an agreement between SNR’s black economic empowerment partner, Rapitrade 644 (Pty) Ltd (‘’Rapitrade’’), and SNR’s 74 per cent. owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Limited, (further details of which were announced on 24 January 2011). The Placing is conditional only upon the admission of the Placing Shares to trading on AIM (“Admission”). The proceeds of the Placing have been received by SNR and will be used by the Company to fund the continued development and commercialisation of the Company's coal mining assets in the Eastern Cape of the Republic of South Africa. The Placing follows an initial investment by Rapidtrade of 10.0 million ordinary shares of 1p each in the Company, announced on 24 January 2011.

Trading update

The Board are pleased to announce that the Company is making good progress in executing its strategy of commercialising its coal mining assets in the Eastern Cape, including the commencement of a new drilling programme. The Company is currently engaged in advanced discussions with interested parties in connection with an off take agreement and the Board anticipates being in a position to announce further details in connection with this upon completion.

In addition the Company is looking to strengthen its management team and expects to announce certain appointments over the coming months.

David Nel, CEO of SNR, commented: “We are delighted that Rapitrade have decided to increase their holding in SNR. The proceeds of the Placing will enable us to continue our development in the Eastern Cape. We are also pleased to be involved in active discussions with potential off take partners.”

Application has been made for the Placing Shares to be admitted to trading on AIM and it is expected that Admission will take place on or around 14 February 2011. On Admission the Placing Shares will represent 4.58 per cent. of the enlarged share capital of SNR and will be registered in the name of Cooch 1095 Limited. Following Admission, Rapitrade will have a total beneficial interest in 15,000,000 ordinary shares in SNR, equivalent to 13.75 per cent. of the Company’s enlarged share capital. The total enlarged issued share capital of SNR following Admission will be 109,103,333 ordinary shares of 1 pence each in the Company. The above figure may be used by shareholders as the denominator for the calculations by which they will determine if they are required to notify their interest in, or a change to their interest in, the share capital of the Company under the Disclosure and Transparency Rules.

Update re Restructure of Black Economic Empowerment Partnership

Further to the announcement made by the Company on 11 November 2010, the Board of Strategic Natural Resources plc (AIM:SNRP) is pleased to announce that the Company has completed the restructuring and consolidation of the black economic empowerment (“BEE”) shareholding in its 74 per cent. owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Limited (“Elitheni”), with its new BEE partner, Rapitrade 644 (Pty) Ltd (‘’Rapitrade’’). SNR has also received £1,300,000 as consideration for the subscription to 10m new ordinary shares of 1 pence in the Company at a price of 13p per share (the “Rapitrade Shares”), in accordance with the terms of the agreement with Rapitrade which afforded Rapitrade, or a company nominated by Rapitrade, the right to subscribe for these shares in SNR.

SNR’s wholly owned subsidiary, Acharnian Mining Limited (“Acharnian”) has, as part of this restructuring, completed the sale of the remaining 22 per cent. of its holding in Elitheni to Rapitrade. This 22% was formerly held by Vuwa Investments (Pty) Limited ("Vuwa") (17 per cent.) and Mr. Christopher Mazizandile Msutu ("Mr Msutu") (5 per cent.). The consideration of ZAR 22,000,000 (approximately £2,001,000) (the “Sale Price”) has been satisfied by Rapitrade by the payment to Acharnian of ZAR 15,000,000 (approximately £1,370,000) in cash and a simultaneous loan of ZAR 7,000,000 (approximately £637,000) from Acharnian to Rapitrade. The terms of this loan include an interest rate equal to the three month LIBOR plus 1.5 per cent, with accrued interest to be rolled up with the principal. Upon Elitheni declaring a dividend, Rapitrade will apply 50 per cent. of its share of that dividend towards discharging the outstanding loan balance.

Rapitrade has entered into an agreement with Mr Msutu which allows him to acquire a portion of the stake in the Company owned by Rapitrade. Mr Msutu will continue fulfilling the role of Elitheni’s Director of stakeholder management.

Acharnian now owns 74 per cent. of Elitheni and Rapitrade and Vuwa each own 22 per cent. and 4 per cent. respectively.

Application has been made for the Rapitrade Shares in SNR to be admitted to trading on AIM (“Admission”) and it is expected that Admission will take place on or around 27 January 2011. On Admission the Rapitrade Shares will represent 9.61 per cent. of the enlarged share capital of SNR and will be registered in the name of Cooch 1095 Limited. The total enlarged issued share capital of SNR following Admission will be 104,103,333 ordinary shares of 1 pence each in the Company. The above figure may be used by shareholders as the denominator for the calculations by which they will determine if they are required to notify their interest in, or a change to their interest in, the share capital of the Company under the Disclosure and Transparency Rules.

The Company were further informed today that following a sale of shares in SNR, Regent Mercantile Holdings Limited no longer has a reportable interest in the issued share capital of SNR.

Unaudited Interim Results for the 6 months ended 31 August 2010

Strategic Natural Resources (AIM:SNRP), 74 per cent owner of coal exploration and production assets located near Indwe in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, today announces its unaudited interim results for the six months ended 31st August 2010.

Highlights:

Competent Persons Report (CPR) from Golder Associates confirmed an increase in Elitheni’s resources from 97.2 million tonnes to 150.3 million tonnes. The area drilled to date represents less than 3 per cent of the total area available for drilling
CPR highlighted 31.4 million tonnes of coal that washes to economic yields and is capable of servicing a variety of markets
Washability and market applications studies confirmed that SNR coal can be used for different applications in South Africa and abroad. Locally it can be used for power generation whilst examples of uses internationally include the domestic heating market in Turkey and power generation in India
SNR received a logistics study on the transportation of coal which included an assessment of road, rail and port infrastructure confirming the feasibility of exporting coal from Elitheni’s mines in the Eastern Cape
SNR restructured and consolidated the Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) shareholding by introducing new partner Rapitrade Ltd, which will make available extra funds for the Bankable Feasibility Study, further exploration and for the development of technology in the boiler market
Edward Cox appointed as Finance Director and Company Secretary.

Restructure of black economic empowerment partnership and issue of equity

Strategic Natural Resources plc (AIM:SNRP) is pleased to announce restructuring and consolidation of the black economic empowerment ("BEE") shareholding in its 74 per cent. owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd ("Elitheni") as follows:

Background

In accordance with South African mining law, as part of the grant of the Company's mining and prospecting rights, SNR is obliged to facilitate the participation of historically disadvantaged persons by 2014 in Elitheni. In order to comply with this, in July 2008 the Company's wholly owned subsidiary, Acharnian Mining Limited ("Acharnian"), transferred shares equating to 26 per cent. of the issued share capital of Elitheni to Vuwa Investments (Pty) Limited ("Vuwa") (21 per cent.) and Mr. Christopher Mazizandile Msutu ("Mr Msutu") (5 per cent.).

Vuwa paid for 4 per cent. of the shares in Elitheni at the time of the transfer in June 2008 and the balance was loaned to Vuwa by Acharnian. In addition, Acharnian also loaned Mr Msutu the purchase price for the Elitheni shares issued to him.

In order to restructure and consolidate the BEE shareholding in Elitheni, Acharnian entered into a conditional share purchase agreement (the "Share Purchase Agreement") on 9 November 2010 with Rapitrade 644 (Pty) Ltd ("Rapitrade") replacing these original loans. Rapitrade is controlled by Mr Phumelele Stone Sizani ("Mr Sizani").

New BEE partner

Under the terms of the Share Purchase Agreement, Acharnian will re-sell the remaining 22 per cent. formerly held by Mr Msutu and Vuwa to Rapitrade for the sum of ZAR 22,000,000 (approximately £2,001,000) (the "Sale Price"). Both Vuwa and Mr Msutu have confirmed in writing to Acharnian their agreement to this consolidation and restructuring of Elitheni's BEE shareholding. This Sale Price will be satisfied by the payment by Rapitrade to Acharnian of ZAR 15,000,000 (approximately £1,370,000) in cash and a simultaneous loan of ZAR 7,000,000 (approximately £637,000) by Acharnian to Rapitrade. This loan will bear interest at a rate equal to the three month LIBOR plus 1.5 per cent. to be rolled up with the principal. Upon Elitheni declaring a dividend, Rapitrade will apply 50 per cent. of the sums payable towards discharging the then outstanding loan.

Rapitrade in turn, has an agreement with Mr Msutu for him to share in Rapitrade's equity. Mr Msutu will continue fulfilling the role of Elitheni's Director of stakeholder management.

The Share Purchase Agreement is conditional, inter alia, on a shareholders' agreement being concluded in respect of Elitheni as well as all necessary regulatory and other approvals being obtained within 40 business days of the date of the Sale and Purchase Agreement.

Following completion of the restructure and consolidation, Acharnian will own 74 per cent. of Elitheni and Rapitrade and Vuwa will each own 22 per cent. and 4 per cent. respectively.

Appoint to the board of Elitheni

In accordance with the terms of the new BEE agreement Rapitrade have the right to appoint a director to the board of Elitheni and it is their intention to appoint Mr Sizani, who is currently a Member of Parliament in the South African Government.

Mr Sizani qualified from the University of East Anglia in the UK with an MA after he had been imprisoned with Mr Nelson Mandela on Robben Island from 1976 to 1981. He was a former Eastern Cape Education Minister and subsequently Chairperson of the African National Congress in the Eastern Cape.

It is the intention of the SNR board to appoint Mr Sizani as a director of SNR over the coming weeks, subject to compliance with the AIM Rules for Companies.

Share subscription

As part of the terms of Rapitrade's involvement as a BEE partner in Elitheni, Rapitrade has agreed to purchase 10,000,000 new ordinary shares of 1 pence each in SNR at subscription price of 13p per share (the "Rapitrade Shares"). The Rapitrade Shares will be issued 10 days after the date upon which the Share Purchase Agreement becomes unconditional and, when issued, will rank pari passu in all respects with the existing issued share capital of the Company. The aggregate funds raised as a result of Rapitrade's subscription, namely £1,300,000, will be used to continue the execution of SNR's business plan.

An application will be made for the Rapitrade Shares to be admitted to trading on AIM following the date of their issue and further announcements will be made in this regard. When issued the Rapitrade Shares will represent 9.61 per cent. of the enlarged share capital of SNR. The total enlarged issued share capital of SNR following the admission of the Rapitrade Shares will be 104,103,333 ordinary shares of 1 pence each in the capital of the Company. The above figure may be used by shareholders at the appropriate time as the denominator for the calculations by which they will determine if they are required to notify their interest in, or a change to their interest in, the share capital of the Company under the Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
SNR's CEO David Nel said: "We are excited and honoured to move forward in partnership with Mr Stone Sizani. Finalising and consolidating our paid-up Elitheni BEE shareholding is a significant achievement which will enable us to expedite the objectives we have set out to achieve in the development of Elitheni. We are also pleased to have achieved the 26 per cent. BEE shareholding level required by the Department of Mineral Resources well ahead of the 2014 deadline".

Appointment of Finance Director

The Board of Strategic Natural Resources (AIM:SNRP) is pleased to announce that Edward Cox has been appointed as Finance Director of SNR, with immediate effect.

Edward succeeds Elizabeth Shaw who has been the Company's Finance Director since the Company's Admission to AIM on 7 August 2007.

Edward has extensive experience with SME's and early stage companies and has held a number of senior roles, including as Chief Executive and Finance Director in a range of quoted and unquoted companies. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Thomson McClintock and obtained his MBA from Manchester Business School in 2001.

David Nel, CEO of SNR, commented "We are delighted to have Edward join our team. He will bring valuable experience to the role at this juncture, and we look forward to working with him in the evolution and expansion of SNR."

Strategic Natural Resources plc (AIM:SNRP) announces that Elizabeth Shaw has today resigned as a Director of the Company with immediate effect. The Board would like to thank Elizabeth Shaw for all her support during her time as Finance Director.

It is SNR's intention to appoint a new Finance Director to the Board of the Company in the near future and will make an announcement in due course.

SNR Progresses Export Strategy

Further to the announcement, released on the 22nd October 2010, that the Company has received the final Washability and Market Application Study in relation to the Elitheni mine (the "Study") the board of Strategic Natural Resources have completed their review of the Study and are pleased to announce their preliminary findings.

The report shows that there is variability in the type of coal across the extent of the coalfield. However, Professor Rosemary Falcon, well known for her assessment of South African Coal, has confirmed the suitability of the Elitheni coal for various major markets, both in South Africa and abroad. This is subject to: good mine planning; proper beneficiation of the mined coal, to reduce the ash content and to achieve the correct sizing; and the related economic feasibility of this extraction and beneficiation. Based on results of the collective feasibility studies undertaken to date, including updated mine planning and cost assessment, the Company is confident this is achievable.

The suitable markets for the Elitheni coal have been identified as follows:

1. the PCI (Pulversised Combustion Injection) market, where coal is used in blast furnaces as a pre-reductant in the preparation of iron and steel;
2. export or local use for high value products in the metallurgical industries. The washed finer material from Elitheni can be used as a possible replacement for coke, char and petcoke;
3. export to countries such as Turkey, where coal is used in the domestic heating market;
4. export to countries such as India where coal is often used for power generation or blended with other coals other than coke; and
5. local use for power and/or heat generation.

The Study shows that the Elitheni coal is precluded from coke blending and would not be suitable for existing Eskom boilers. However it would be suitable for fluidised bed boilers.

The Company is in discussion with several international traders, power developers and coal brokering companies and will be looking to secure future commitments in the form of coal offtake agreements, investment at the Elitheni mine and investment in the Port of East London. The Board hope to be able to commence exports of Elitheni coal in 2012.

Strategic Natural Resources, Chief Executive Officer, David Nel, today commented: "With the rising coal price we are delighted to receive positive confirmation from an independent third party that coal from the Elitheni mine has so many applications and can be effectively washed to supply not only the thermal market but also high value markets such as the metallurgical and Pulversised Combustion Injection markets too. We will be working hard to deliver to our shareholders the right offtake agreements with partners on a long term basis to enable our strategy to succeed."

Announcement by IPSA Group PLC

The Board of Strategic Natural Resources (AIM:SNRP) notes the recent announcement made by IPSA Group PLC ("IPSA") in relation to a coal supply agreement (the "Agreement") between IPSA's wholly owned subsidiary, Indwe Power (Pty) Limited ("IPPL") and Elitheni Coal (Pty) Limited (together with SNR, the "Group").

The Group is currently in discussions with a number of potential parties about entering into alternative coal supply agreements for future production from the Elitheni mine. These discussions are progressing and the Company will make further announcements at the appropriate time.

Prior to the announcement by IPSA, the Group had not received any notice of termination from IPPL in relation to the Agreement. It is noted that a clear right in law entitling such termination is not readily apparent and SNR are considering this further.

Notwithstanding the delays in Eskom's Multi-site Baseload Independent Power Production Programme, which in turn have led to delays in achieving off-take contracts for power from IPSA's proposed mine mouth power plant at Indwe, the Group had previously chosen not to terminate the Agreement as it was entitled to in accordance with the terms thereof.

Directorate Change

Strategic Natural Resources (AIM:SNRP) announces that Peter Earl is no longer a director of the Company.

Due to an increasing conflict of interest between SNR and IPSA Group PLC ("IPSA"), a company of which Mr Earl is CEO, the board of SNR (the "Board") requested at a meeting held yesterday that Mr Earl resign as a non executive director of the Company. Mr Earl refused this request and asked for a vote of confidence from the Board. This vote was rejected unanimously by the board members present at the meeting. As a consequence Mr Earl has left the Board of SNR.

The Board is in discussions with Elizabeth Shaw (the Company's current Finance Director and also a director of IPSA) about her position as Finance Director of SNR. Further announcements will be made at the appropriate time when these discussions have concluded.

The Board would like to thank Peter Earl for all his support for the Company during his time as a non executive director.

Update on Feasibility Study

Strategic Natural Resources (AIM:SNRP), 74% owner of coal exploration and production assets located near Indwe in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, is pleased to announce that it has received the logistics study on the transporting of coal from Elitheni Coal's mine to the port infrastructure in the Eastern Cape. The logistics study, which has been prepared by Ports of Africa ("PoA"), represents a further step towards completing the bankable feasibility study into the export of coal from Elitheni Coal's mine.

The logistics study comprises an assessment of the road, rail and port infrastructure in the Eastern Cape, including simulation modelling of the entire system and proposals regarding technical solutions for materials handling at mine and port. PoA have confirmed in the logistics study that it is feasible to export coal from Elitheni Coal's mine through the Port of East London in the Eastern Cape. Initial tonnage estimates in the logistics summary are 0.5 million tonnes per annum and the Board believe that this could increase to up to 2.5 million tonnes three years after the commencement of coal exports from Elitheni Coal's mine.

The Board will now undertake a review of the alternative transport proposals through further discussion with Transnet Freight Rail ("TFR") and Transnet National Port Authority ("TNPA") to define access rights and design of the rail system and tenure at the Port of East London.

The logistics study represents the second phase of SNR's export feasibility study. The first phase was the updating of the competent person's report on Elitheni Coal's coal and production assets and this was announced on 21 July 2010. The third and final phase of the export feasibility study is the washability and the market application studies. These are currently being undertaken and are expected to be delivered to the Company prior to end of the current year. Completion of the full bankable export feasibility study is contingent on the delivery of these reports and the conclusion of agreements with both TFR and TNPA regarding pricing and delivery of the necessary rail and port upgrades.

David Nel, CEO of SNR, commented "The logistics study confirms that local transport capacity to deliver coal from the mine to the port is available and can be upgraded to provide a basis for our export plans. It also confirms that there is sufficient capacity at the Port of East London to allow exports of coal in Handysize vessels with a reasonable level of upgrade. If the final elements of the export feasibility study are as positive we are targeting commencement of regular exports from 2012."

Update on Feasibility Study

Strategic Natural Resources (AIM:SNRP), 74% owner of coal exploration and production assets located near Indwe in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, is pleased to announce that it has received the washability and market application studies. This represents the third and final stage of the feasibility study into the export of coal from Elitheni Coal's mine (the "Feasibility Study"). The Board of SNR are currently reviewing these studies and expect to be in a position provide a full update on the outcome of the Feasibility Study to the market by the end of October.

Share Price Rise

Resource Update

SNR is pleased to announce a 55% increase in the coal resource of its 74% owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd ("Elitheni" or the "Company").

Golder Associates, SNR's competent person has, in a recent updated competent persons report (the "Updated CPR"), confirmed an increase in Elitheni's resources from 97.2 million tonnes to 150.3 million tonnes, comprising, 45.6 million tonnes measured resource, 45.5 million tonnes indicated resource and 59.2 million tonnes inferred resource. The additional drilling undertaken in relation to the Updated CPR spans an area of circa 3,000 ha. The area drilled to date represents less than 3% of the total area available for drilling. Roughly 179,000ha of Elitheni's total rights area remains available for further assessment by Golder Associates.

In addition to the increase in resource, SNR has commissioned Golder Associates to investigate and highlight the areas of exportable quality coal within the area covered by the Updated CPR. Golder Associates have reported an area of just under 1,300ha within Elitheni's mining rights area which contains 31.4 million tonnes of coal that washes to economical yields to deliver an exportable quality coal, capable of servicing a variety of markets.

The Updated CPR is the first of three steps being taken by SNR in relation to its ongoing export feasibility study SNR has currently underway. In addition to the Updated CPR, SNR expects to release the results of the logistics component of its feasibility study shortly. This will be followed by a detailed washing and market application study.

SNR's CEO David Nel said; "It is most encouraging to receive such positive results from the first stage of our export feasibility study. The increase in resources will allow us to pursue an export strategy without any affect on our power generation supply strategy."

Trading update

Strategic Natural Resources plc (AIM:SNRP), the explorer and producer of coal assets in South Africa, provides the following update to its shareholders following completion of the recent £2.9 million fundraising.

Highlights:

• SNR has commissioned Golder Associates to update the Competent Person's Report (CPR) with an additional 29 boreholes drilled, on its western area of its Phase 1&2 mining right, all yielding coal

• SNR has acquired a 26% stake in a South African engineering firm, which will build burners to burn Eastern Cape anthracite

Update of the CPR and Export Feasibility Assessment Study ("EFA")

SNR has commissioned Golder Associates to update the CPR on the deposits in the western half of the Company's Phase 1&2 reserve. An additional 29 boreholes have been drilled and all have yielded coal. The updated CPR is expected to be released later this year.

In conjunction with the update to the CPR, SNR has commissioned an EFA comprising:

i) a detailed assessment of logistics and materials handling of all coal from mine mouth to vessel hold. This assessment will be undertaken by Ports of Africa (Pty) Ltd and is expected to be completed during the second half of this year; and

ii) bulk sampling and washing of coal from the eastern area of the Company's Phase 1&2 reserves, in order to assess washability curves as well as metallurgical properties of the coal.

Investment in engineering

SNR, in partnership with two other South African based companies, has recently established an engineering operation in South Africa to build burners to burn the Eastern Cape anthracite to be mined by SNR. SNR has acquired 26% of this venture on a par basis, through providing exclusivity to ACE for the manufacture of burners to burn the Elitheni Coal, no further financial commitments have been made. The Company's partners, Jeuelly 44 Trading CC (49% ownership) and Allied Coal Projects (Pty) Ltd (25% ownership) , share over 50 years experience in materials handling and boiler manufacturing in South Africa, servicing clients such as Transnet, SAB, Anglo and Lion Match.

Construction of the first prototype ACE Burner will be completed later this year. The construction of this ACE Burner follows the trials conducted earlier this year using Suxe burner technology to prove the effective combustion of Eastern Cape anthracite and has created an opportunity for the marketing of Eastern Cape anthracite for industrial steam production in South Africa. Subject to successful trials of the ACE Burner, SNR expects production of new burners to commence in late 2010, in order to supply initial contracts.

Results of General Meeting

The Company is pleased to announce that all resolutions put before members at its General Meeting held earlier today were duly passed.

As a result, the 19,165,000 new ordinary shares, which are being issued pursuant to a placing to raise £2.9m (before expenses), will be admitted to trading on AIM ("Admission") at 8.00 a.m. on 12 April 2010.

Following Admission, the Company will have 94,103,333 ordinary shares in issue. This figure may be used by shareholders as the denominator for the calculations by which they will determine if they are required to notify their interest in, or a change to their interest in, the share capital of the Company under the Disclosure and Transparency Rules.

At the General Meeting David Nel, Chief Executive of the Company, made the following comment:

Introduction

The Company is pleased to announce a conditional placing of 19,165,000 new ordinary shares (the "Placing Shares") at a price of 15 pence per Placing Share. The expected net proceeds of the Placing, amounting to approximately £2.7 million, will be used by the Company to fund the development and commercialisation of its mining assets in the Eastern Cape of the Republic of South Africa and to enable the Company to repay a short term facility incurred to repay a working capital loan to Elitheni Coal (Pty) Limited, the Company's 74% subsidiary ("Elitheni"). The Placing is conditional, inter alia, upon approval by the Company's shareholders.

Business update

During the financial year ended 28 February 2010 Elitheni commenced coal extraction and supplied coal to a small number of brickyards in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. This involved the test marketing of the Company's coal and some 4,000 tonnes were supplied commercially during the year. The primary purpose of this supply was to fund the initial mine development needed to commence preparation of underground mining. In January 2010, Elitheni personnel and a local engineering company oversaw the delivery and installation of the first burner capable of converting existing boilers to enable them to burn the Company's coal. The Company's directors (the "Directors") anticipate the expansion of sales of Elitheni coal to the local industrial market based on this low pressure boiler conversion project, which is currently undergoing commissioning.

Strategic Natural Resources remains committed to supplying IPSA Group PLC ("IPSA") with coal for Independent Power Producer ("IPP") generation in the Eastern Cape of South Africa and the Directors continue to believe in the viability of this strategy, especially in light of recent announcements in South Africa concerning the intention of the Government of South Africa to conclude IPP contracts in 2010. This is in conjunction with a 25% year on year approved price increase for national electricity provider, Eskom, which was announced by the South African electricity regulator in its multi-year price determination on 24 February 2010.

Given the time needed to obtain the necessary permissions and construct IPSA's power generation plant, the Directors have agreed to focus in the short and medium term on both the local steam market and the development of an export strategy.

Strategic Natural Resources will continue concentrating on the small to medium-sized industrial boiler market in order to generate short term coal sales. Boiler conversion provides a cost effective way for local industrial companies to lower their steam costs by using Elitheni coal. The Company is prepared to make small investments to enhance the existing burner technology in order to generate an income stream for the Company's mine in the short term.

Development of the Company's export strategy is based on the buoyancy of demand for coal to be supplied overseas. Exports will allow the mine the opportunity to significantly expand, on the basis of voluminous production, which will assist the mine in readiness to commence supply for power generation.

Use of proceeds of the Placing

The Company intends to apply the net proceeds of the Placing which, after commissions and expenses, amount to approximately £2.7 million, to:

· develop mining activities at Elitheni to enable increased supply of coal to the local steam market in 2010;

· invest in engineering to underpin the roll out of burner technology to local industrial customers in the Eastern and Western Cape of South Africa;

· finalise costings related to logistics and materials handling and update the Competent Persons Report (prepared by Golder Associates Africa in September 2008) on the deposits in the western half of the Company's Phase 1&2 reserve, as part of the feasibility assessment for exports primarily through the Port of East London;

· conduct a desktop assessment of the feasibility of exporting steam coal through the deep water Port of Coega;

· commence exploratory geological work in the form of modelling and desktop mapping of the new phase 5 exploration area, comprising 119,334 ha of land, in order to plan for a drilling programme; and

· repay the debt owed under the Short Term Loan Agreement as defined below.

The Short Term Loan Agreement

As disclosed in the Company's latest Annual Report and Interim Statements, on 17 June 2009 Elitheni entered into a loan agreement (the "Loan Agreement") with Ulitorque (Pty) Limited, a company incorporated in South Africa ("Ulitorque"). Pursuant to the Loan Agreement, Ulitorque advanced Elitheni ZAR4.5 million (approximately £402,300) for working capital purposes. Under the terms of the Loan Agreement, Ulitorque may convert the principal of the loan and accrued interest into a shareholding of 10% in Elitheni (a "Conversion") which could, through independent valuation, be converted into new shares in the Company. Ulitorque requested repayment of this loan, plus accrued interest, in September 2009 and Elitheni agreed to make this repayment in due course.

The Directors believe that it is in the best interests of the Company to repay the loan from Ulitorque before 17 March 2010, thus avoiding the requirement to issue new shares in Elitheni or the Company. In order to do so, the Company entered into a short term loan agreement with SP Angel, pursuant to which SP Angel loaned £300,000 to the Company on 15 March 2010 (the "Short Term Loan Agreement"). The Company has used this loan, together with its own existing cash resources, to effect repayment of both the principal and accrued interest of the Ulitorque loan, totalling approximately ZAR4.9 million (approximately £440,000), on 16 March 2010. If, for any reason, this repayment is not completed then Conversion may still occur. Part of the net proceeds of the Placing will be applied by the Company to repay SP Angel the amounts due under the terms of the Short Term Loan Agreement.

Details of the Placing

The Company is proposing to raise, in aggregate, £2.9 million (before commissions and expenses) by means of the Placing. The Placing Shares will rank in full for all dividends and otherwise pari passu with the Company's existing ordinary shares of 1 pence each ("Ordinary Shares") from the date of admission of the Placing Shares to trading on AIM ("Admission").

SP Angel has been appointed to arrange the Placing. SP Angel is an authorised representative of Helvetia Asset Management Limited, which will act as settlement agent for the Placing. Pursuant to a placing agreement dated 16 March 2010 (the "Placing Agreement") SP Angel has agreed, subject to the satisfaction of certain conditions, to use its reasonable endeavours to procure placees for Placing Shares at a price of 15p per Placing Share. The Placing Agreement contains warranties from the Company and the Directors, and an indemnity from the Company, in favour of SP Angel.

It is expected that the Placing Shares will be admitted to trading on AIM at 8.00a.m. on 12 April 2010. The Placing is conditional, inter alia, upon:

· Shareholder approval of the resolutions to be proposed at a general meeting of the Company, convened for 10.00a.m. on 9 April 2010 (the "General Meeting");

· the Placing Agreement becoming unconditional in all respects and not having been terminated in accordance with its terms; and

· Admission, in each case by no later than 8.00a.m. on 12 April 2010 (or such time and date as the Company and SP Angel may agree, being not later than 30 April 2010).

Irrevocable undertakings

The Company has procured irrevocable undertakings from certain Strategic Natural Resources shareholders holding, in aggregate, 48.2% of the existing issued share capital of the Company to vote in favor of the resolutions to be proposed at the General Meeting. These shareholders include all the Directors, who together hold both directly and indirectly 33.2% of the existing issued share capital of the Company.

Related party transaction

Coal of Africa Limited ("Coal of Africa") currently holds approximately 15.0% of the Ordinary Shares in the Company and has undertaken to subscribe for 6,665,000 Placing Shares as part of the Placing. As a consequence Coal of Africa will, following the Placing, have an interest in 17,925,000 Ordinary Shares, representing 19.0% of the Company's issued Ordinary Shares. Consequently its participation in the Placing is classified as a related party transaction pursuant to the AIM Rules. The Directors of the Company, having consulted with the Company's nominated adviser, Allenby Capital Limited, consider that the terms of Coal of Africa's participation in the Placing are fair and reasonable insofar as the Company's shareholders are concerned.

Admission and dealings

The Placing is conditional upon certain conditions, including shareholder approval of certain resolutions, to be tabled at a general meeting of the Company, to be convened at 10.00 a.m. on 9 April 2010 at the Company's office at 5th Floor, Prince Consort House, 27-29 Albert Embankment, London, SE1 7TJ. The business of the General Meeting will be to grant the Directors authority to allot Ordinary Shares and to disapply pre-emption rights in connection with the issue of the Placing Shares, both of which require the requisite approval of the Company's shareholders.

Application will be made for the Placing Shares (which when issued and fully paid will rank pari passu in all respects with the Ordinary Shares) to be admitted to trading on AIM. Admission is expected to be effective on 12 April 2010. Following Admission of the Placing Shares, the Company will have 94,103,333 Ordinary Shares in issue. Board Changes

The Board of SNR announces that, on 5th February 2010, it appointed David Nel, currently the Company's Operations Director, as the Company's Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect. Randal MacDonnell now has a total beneficial and non beneficial interest in 98,872 ordinary shares in the Company equivalent to 0.13 per cent. of the total issued share capital of SNR.

Jeremy Metcalfe, Chief Executive of SNR, purchased 32,106 ordinary shares in the Company on 25 November 2009 at prices of 15.2 pence and 15.5 pence per share. SNR Subsidiary More Than Doubles its Coal Prospecting Rights Area

Strategic Natural Resources PLC ("SNR") is pleased to announce that its 74% owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd ("Elitheni" or the "Company") has been awarded an additional 119,374 ha of exclusive new order prospecting rights in the Eastern Cape coalfield, in addition to its current phase 1, 2, 3 and 4 prospecting rights measuring 64,877 ha in area. This latest addition means that the Company finishes the 2009 calendar year having acquired exclusive prospecting rights over approximately 185,000 ha (1,850km2), an area nearly five times the size with which it started the year.

No other prospecting or mining rights for coal have been granted to any other business in the Eastern Cape. The Company has secured these additional rights in response to the heightened market demand, IPSA Group PLC's power generation development plans and as a result of the increasing demand for export coal being experienced in South Africa.

The new prospecting rights, which represent 'Phase 5' of the Company's development in the Eastern Cape, has been named "Project Indlovu", being the Xhosa word "elephant", because the shape of the area clearly depicts an elephant's head and appropriately represents a strong move forward for the Company. The new prospecting rights provide the Company a period of 5 years plus an option to renew for 3 years, in which to prove coal sufficient to apply exclusively for a 30 year mining right over the most mineable area of the additional land. Project Indlovu is situated on the main rail line to the new deep water port at Port Elizabeth, Coega, some 500km away. The port is capable of handling 180,000 tonne cargo vessels.

Based on the size of the area, the identifiable outcrops of coal and the presence of old coal workings, the Directors believe that this new area, could, in due course add significant additional tonnage to Elitheni's current in situ coal.

SNR's Chief Executive, Jeremy Metcalfe said "The definite increase in demand for our Elitheni coal in terms of local markets as well as export markets bodes extremely well for the future of SNR. With the recent interest taken in SNR by Coal of Africa Limited, SNR will be looking to exploit a trading and export advantage with this coal, given its strategic location and access to a deep water port."

IPSA Group PLC ("IPSA") is a developer of independent electricity generation projects in southern Africa. It owns the first independent gas-fired cogeneration plant in Newcastle, KwaZuluNatal and IPSA intends to develop up to 1,000 MW of coal-fired plant based on the Elitheni coal resource.

In recognition of the significant advantages that the involvement of CoAL is expected to bring to SNR, the Company has been informed that as part of this transaction, Southern Cape Corridor Power (Pty) Limited ("SCCP"), a South African Company 78.5 per cent of which is owned by Southern Cape Corridor Trust in which David Nel and Barry Nel, both directors of SNR are a beneficiary and a trustee respectively, has sold 3,400,000 shares in SNR at 10p per share. SCCP's interest in SNR is now 18.82 per cent.

The Board of SNR is very pleased with this significant new investment in the Company and looks forward to future collaborations with CoAL with a view to initiating exports of coal from SNR's Elitheni Mine at Indwe in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

The two companies will also be co-ordinating engineering efforts on the development of generic smaller mine mouth independent power projects, such as the one being developed at Elitheni at Indwe by IPSA Group PLC (AIM: IPSA).

The Board of SNR is convinced that the future of electricity network expansion in South Africa is linked to the production of new coal reserves tied to independent power producers and that SNR is well positioned to use its coal for new power plants. It therefore welcomes assistance it may receive from CoAL in accelerating its production plans at Elitheni and exploring other areas of co-operation.

Admission of Equity and Shareholdings

On 4 November 2009, Strategic Natural Resources PLC ("SNR" or the "Company") announced that 6,500,000 new ordinary shares of 1p each in the Company (the "Placing Shares") had been placed at 10p per share. The funds raised under the Placing will be used for general working capital purposes.

End of talks and termination of Offer Period

The Board of SNR announces that it has been unable to agree terms for Atlantic Coal plc ("Atlantic") to proceed with a recommended offer for SNR and accordingly talks between the two companies in relation to an offer have now ended. Therefore, SNR is no longer in an Offer Period, as defined under the City Code on Takeovers and Mergers.

On 28 October 2008, SNR announced that its 74% owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd had agreed a 25 year coal supply agreement with IPSA Group plc ("IPSA") for the supply of 1 Million tonnes of Elitheni coal per annum for a proposed 250 MW power plant to be established and operated by IPSA at Elitheni. On 9 October 2009, IPSA announced that it is proceeding with the environmental impact assessment for the mine mouth power plant and has taken an option on a site for the power plant located adjacent to SNR's Elitheni Mine. IPSA intends to develop the plant based on a perceived shortage of electricity generation capacity in the South African market.

In the light of this development and its own initiatives in the steam boiler and coal export markets, the Board of SNR feels it cannot recommend any offer which does not recognise the strategic nature of Elitheni's 97 million tonnes of in situ coal.

Comment from Richard Latham, Chairman

“As anticipated, Elitheni received its coal mining and extraction licence towards the end of the financial year under review. Having drilled only 1.3% of our licenced area and confirmed a measured resource capable of supplying more than just the first phase of the planned IPP, we are now moving to put in place sales to long term customers in order to underline the conversion of Elitheni from an exploration company to a producing mine-owner.

It is no small achievement that we have been able to move from obtaining a prospecting right to a mining right and turning first soil in 3 years (as opposed to the norm of 5 years), within the mineral regulations imposed on the South African mining industry. The key focus area for our next financial year will be to sweat the asset and realise revenue through steadily increasing production and sales.

We are not immune to the tightening of economic conditions from the end of 2008 until the present day and in particular the commencement of supply to our power generation base has been delayed in the context of Eskom having surplus power due to the turn down in the South African economy in conjunction with the global recession.

We are, however, excited about prospects for the coming year as SNR has been working hard to generate market penetration in terms of coal supply to local industry, which we believe can result in a cash positive situation for the operating company in 2010.

Possible Offer and Acquisition of SNR Ordinary Shares

The Board of the Company notes the announcement made yesterday by Atlantic Coal plc (”Atlantic”), whose shares are traded on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange, in relation to Atlantic’s purchase of SNR ordinary shares and its possible interest in making an offer for the entire issued share capital of the Company. Atlantic Coal plc, the AIM listed open cast coal production and processing company with activities in Pennsylvania, USA, announces that on 7 August 2009 it purchased 6,840,000 ordinary shares of 1p each in Strategic Natural Resources plc (’SNR’) representing 9.99% of SNR’s issued share capital, for cash at 8.25p per share. Atlantic has no other interests in SNR shares.

Atlantic is considering its position regarding a possible offer for SNR. If any offer is made, it will be at a minimum price of 15p per SNR share, such price being a premium of 84.6% to the middle market price of 8.125p per SNR share as at close of business on 7 August 2009. If any offer is made, the consideration would be a mixture of new ordinary shares in Atlantic and cash.

It is emphasised that this announcement does not amount to a firm intention to make an offer and it is possible that no offer will be made.

Strategic Natural In Coal Supply To Brick Manufacturers

Strategic Natural Resources (SNR) informs that its 74% owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd has established a successful working model whereby brick manufacturing concerns in the Eastern Cape can utilise SNR’s anthracite coal in the brick manufacturing process.

The partnership formed last year has yielded successful results and Elitheni is now able to offer a proven working model to brick manufacturing concerns in the Eastern Cape.

As a result of this development, Elitheni is planning a succession of coal face blasts in order to ensure sufficient supply to meet demand, the company said.

Subsidiary secures additional coal prospecting rights

Strategic Natural Resources PLC (”SNR”) is pleased to announce that its 74% owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd (”Elitheni” or the “Company”) has acquired an additional 26,000ha of new order prospecting rights in the Eastern Cape coalfield, contiguous to its current phase 1,2 and 3 rights measuring 36,000 ha in area.

This brings to a total over 60,000 ha (600 km2) of contiguous prospecting rights the Company has acquired in the heart of the Eastern Cape coalfields. The Company announced last year that it had applied for new prospecting rights given the interest by new markets in the coal and IPSA’s power generation expansion plans. The new prospecting right, dubbed by succession, phase 4, will give the Company a period of 5 years in which to prove coal sufficient to apply exclusively for a 30 year mining right over the most mineable area of this additional land. The Company expects that this new area could in due course add significant additional tonnage to Elitheni’s in situ coal.

SNR’s Chief Executive, Jeremy Metcalfe said “Although the international commodity trade has fallen in comparison with last year’s figures, coal remains a sound investment. Our coalfield is still ideally situated to meet South Africa’s near and long term energy needs and is well positioned to provide a solution to coastal power and energy requirements. Accordingly, we have taken a decision as a company to continue with Elitheni’s planned expansion, in order to be ready for the upswing of commodity markets which we estimate will be in the next 18 - 24 months.”

In addition to the IPSA commercial coal supply agreement signed at the end of last year, the Company is in negotiations with a number of commercial concerns in terms of supply to the industrial steam market in the Eastern Cape.

Share Placing

AIM quoted - Strategic Natural Resources PLC (”SNR” or “the Company”) announces that it has raised £309,450 through a placing of 3,438,333 new ordinary shares in the Company at 9 p per share by HB Corporate to a combination of new investors as well as certain members of the Board (the “Placing”). The funds, after expenses, raised under the Placing will be used for general working capital purposes.

Application will be made to the London Stock Exchange for the new ordinary shares to be admitted to trading on AIM and it is expected that the new ordinary shares will be admitted to trading on 12 March 2009.

The total number of ordinary shares in issue following the Placing will be 68,438,333.

The Directors’ participation in the Placing constitutes a related party transaction under the AIM rules for Companies and the Board of the Company, with the exception of those directors participating in the Placing, having consulted with the Company’s nominated adviser, HB Corporate, consider that the terms of the transaction are fair and reasonable insofar as its shareholders are concerned.

BEE funding extension and trading update

IM quoted - Strategic Natural Resources PLC (”SNR” or “the Company”) announces an extension to its BEE funding and a trading update relating to its operating subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (PTY) Limited (”Elitheni”).

Acharnian Mining Limited (”Acharnian”)

In July 2008, SNR announced the disposal by its wholly owned subsidiary, Acharnian, of 26 per cent. of Elitheni to a BEE consortium comprising principally of Vuwa Investments (”Vuwa”). As part of the transaction a loan was made by Acharnian to Vuwa of £3.253m, such receivable secured under a loan note due 12 December 2008 and a pledge over 17.62 per cent. of Elitheni. The loan note remains outstanding and Acharnian has not exercised the pledge to date. Vuwa has requested an extension to the period to settle the amount due to Acharnian and accordingly a revised completion date for the payment has been set for 31 May, 2009. It is anticipated that the completion date will be met but a further extension may be required. The profit recognised by Acharnian in connection with the disposal to Vuwa in the interim results for the period ended 31 August 2008 was £3.972 million of which £640,000 was received in cash.

Elitheni

The Company’s operating subsidiary, Elitheni, having established 100Mt of in-situ coal and obtained its full mining right at the end of 2008 as planned, is now moving towards initial coal sales whilst further progress is made on the power project development by IPSA Group PLC.
Elitheni has commenced supplying the local domestic market. The first 20 of a planned 100 small franchised depots, selling bags of coal for heating in winter, has been established. Testing of coal by potential offtakers with a more substantial coal requirement is underway with a view to bringing in sales in the first half of the current calendar year. Trials with varying clay brickyards are proving promising and Elitheni expects first sales in May 2009. Other markets where Elitheni’s coal can be used for heating purposes have also been identified and testing is underway. Again sales are expected in the early half of 2009. Whilst these domestic sales are expected to yield a positive gross margin they are not expected to produce an overall operating profit at the Elitheni level.
In addition, Elitheni has determined that the means to export metallurgical quality coal through the port at East London, in the Eastern Cape is a real possibility and in addition to the substantial domestic market for metallurgical coal Elitheni estimates that export sales could commence as early as the second half of the year. Such sales would be both spot and under medium term contracts and for significant tonnages, and at good gross margins.
Another area of opportunity which is under development is the supply of coal for industrial steam generation under medium to long term contracts. Negotiations to supply approximately 120,000 tonnes pa to new facilities under development are underway.
In respect of long term contracts, Elitheni has already entered into a long term contract to supply IPSA with 1 million tonnes of coal per annum for 20 years for its planned power station to be built at the mine mouth at Indwe in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.
Elitheni is also working closely with South African gas and oil utilities on proposals to develop gasification plants to generate syngas to fuel power stations.

Subsidiary granted Full Mining Licence

AIM quoted - Strategic Natural Resources PLC (”SNR” or “the Company”) announces that its 74% owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd (”Elitheni”), has been granted an exclusive full mining licence enabling it to commence underground coal extraction over the 92km2 of land in its Phase 1 and 2 Areas at its deposit at Indwe in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

Having established a mineable in-situ reserve of approximately 100 million tonnes of coal, the Department of Minerals and Energy (”DME”) has formally granted an exclusive full mining right to Elitheni. This will provide Elitheni with the sole right to extract and sell all the coal proven up over the entire 92km2 area. The Elitheni team has been diligently working over the past year to ensure that all requirements of the Mineral & Petroleum Resources Development Act of 2002 (”MPRDA”) have been met and that the DME is satisfied with all Elitheni’s submissions. Elitheni has, to date, completed prospecting over merely 25km2 of the 92km2 of its Phase 1 and 2 Areas with sufficient reserves on this area to supply their first contractual obligation to Indwe Power (Pty) Limited (”IPPL”), an indirect subsidiary of Independent Power South Africa (”IPSA”), for 1 million tonnes of coal per annum for a period of 20 years.

Commenting on this major step forward, Jeremy Metcalfe, SNR’s Chief Executive, said “This will now enable Elitheni to move from pure exploration to undertaking major coal production and, based on our results so far, we believe there is a greater abundance of coal reserves over this vast area that we now have full rights to. We are also very pleased with the confidence that the DME has in Elitheni as this licence is the first ever new order mining right for the extraction of coal to be granted in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.”

SNR Resource Increases by 140%

Strategic Natural Resources PLC (“SNR”) is pleased to announce that its 74% owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd (“Elitheni” or the “Company”), has confirmed a substantial increase to its coal resource at Indwe in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.

According to the latest drilling results under SAMREC rules, Willem van der Schyff from the Company’s Consultant Geologists, Golder Associates Africa (Pty) Ltd (“Golder”), confirms an in-situ coal resource of 97.2 million tonnes. This is an increase of 140% since the last resource statement of May 2008. The resource of 97.2 million tonnes comprises 44.5Mt of measured resource, 26.3Mt of indicated resource and 26.4Mt of inferred resource. Based on this, Elitheni’s Mining Engineering Consultant Rudi Gerber, has confirmed 52 million tonnes of extractable coal.

Following an application from the Company to the Department of Mines and Energy (“DME”) on the 10th September 2008, the total area under exploration and applied for now stands at approximately 190,000 hectares. To date, only 2500 hectares have been drilled representing 1.3% of the total area within the applied licence.

Jeremy Metcalfe, SNR’s Chief Executive, said “In these uncertain times it is a relief to be able to report such an excellent result. We now have more than enough extractable coal to satisfy the needs of a substantial electricity power producing station planned to be constructed at our mine site and to be able to deliver coal to a number of other customers in the Eastern and Western Cape provinces.”

The information regarding Elitheni’s coal reserves in this announcement has been reviewed and approved by Rudi Gerber B.Eng (MIN) as an approved Compentent Person of Algoa Consulting Mining Engineers . This CPR is undertaken in accordance with the South African Code for representing mineral resources and mineral reserves(SAMREC 2007 Code).

Strategic Natural Resources PLC signs first major commercial coal supply agreement

Strategic Natural Resources PLC (”SNR”) is pleased to announce that its 74% owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd (”Elitheni” or the “Company”) has signed its first major commercial coal supply agreement with Indwe Power (Pty) Ltd (”IPPL”), an indirect subsidiary of IPSA Group PLC (”IPSA”).

Elitheni has entered into a Coal Supply Agreement (”CSA”) to supply approximately 1,000,000 tonnes of coal per annum for a period of 25 years, to IPPL for consumption in a 250 MW electrical power plant to be established at the mine mouth of Elitheni’s coal deposit at Indwe in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The aggregate amount of coal delivered by Elitheni to IPPL shall be determined according to the calorific value of such coal and shall equate to an annual amount of 17.5 million Gigajoules, comparative in price to the prices Eskom is currently paying for coal on the Eskom Spot Market.

In addition, Elitheni has been notified by IPPL that it is actively considering the establishment of further power stations in the East London area of the Eastern Cape, of up to 1,000 MW capacity. In such event, both parties will negotiate a new framework agreement on terms substantially similar to the CSA announced today.

SNR’s Chief Executive, Jeremy Metcalfe said “In times of such uncertainty it is heartening to be able to announce this major event in our Company’s evolving story. This CSA supersedes the original coal supply framework agreement entered into with IPSA in August 2007 following the establishment of over 52 million extractable tonnes of coal based on proven and probable reserves and an increase in the potential exploration area from approximately 9,500 hectares to just short of 200,000 hectares.”

Application for Prospecting Rights - Project Indlovu Formed for New Market Opportunities

Strategic Natural Resources PLC (”SNR”) is pleased to announce that its 74% owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd (”Elitheni” or “the Company”) has launched a new project in South Africa to meet predicted expansion in the market demand for coal.

Elitheni submitted to the Department of Minerals and Energy on Friday 5 September 2008, a new order prospecting rights application for 119,000 ha of private farm and state land within the Eastern Cape coalfields. The area is approximately 60km west of Elitheni’s current 60,000 ha prospecting area situated in Gubahoek/Macubeni in the districts of Indwe and Lady Frere, Eastern Cape which is in process, as per its phase 1, 2, 3 and 4 prospecting rights and applications.

The new project has been dubbed ‘Project Indlovu’ which is the local Xhosa word for ‘Elephant’. The Company has taken the decision to more than treble the potential prospecting area under its control in response to recent discussions and negotiations with IPSA for the offtake of its coal as well as in response to pipeline deals the Company is working on and hopes to report on in the New Year.

SNR Chief Operations Officer, David Nel, said: “We have named this major project after the prized symbol of the Eastern Cape in South Africa, the mighty elephant, as this represents a strong step forward for SNR and Elitheni and quite coincidentally, the collective area is shaped in the head of elephant. Strategic Natural Resources (”SNR”) is pleased to announce that its 74% owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd (”Elitheni” or the “Company”), has expanded its blasting programme at its coal deposit near Indwe in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

On 18 August the Company announced that it had performed the first blast at its mine site to remove overburden from the outcropping coal seam. On 29 August the Company performed another controlled blast to fracture the exposed coal as a result of the first blast which has resulted in approximately 1,900 tonnes of saleable coal being exposed. This coal will shortly be crushed and graded in equipment which is due to be commissioned within the next 5 days; thereafter the coal will be available for sale and onward delivery to a number of trial customers by the end of September.

SNR’s Chief Executive, Jeremy Metcalfe, said “This is a small beginning which like an oak tree that started life as an acorn will undoubtedly grow into something of considerable significance. The demand for coal in South Africa is growing at an unprecedented rate as is the demand for electricity. Our proven coal deposit is positioned to supply an Independent Power Plant of up to 500MW for the next 20 years.”

SNR triggers first blast to commence commercial coal production

Strategic Natural Resources PLC (”SNR”) announces that its 74% owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd (”Elitheni or the Company”) has taken a major step forward to commence coal production at its deposit at Indwe in the Eastern Cape in South Africa.

Granted a mining permit with an approved Environmental Management Plan (”EMP”) to extract coal over 1,5 ha by South Africa’s Department of Minerals and Energy (”DME”) in June 2008, Elitheni has been preparing an area for limited open cast mining culminating in the first blasting to remove overburden from the mining site. SNR is pleased to announce that the blast took place at midday, Monday 18 August.

This initial blast will be followed by another seven or eight blasts during the next six months over the open-cast mining area to enable approximately 50,000 tonnes of coal to be extracted by means of open-cast mining. This will be followed by a full-scale underground mining operation which has been planned to commence early in 2009 subsequent to Elitheni obtaining its underground mining licence from the DME. The underground mining plan will be implemented across the 37,000 ha over which Elitheni has exclusive rights in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.

SNR Chief Executive Jeremy Metcalfe said: “This has been an auspicious occasion for the Company and paves the way forward for its subsidiary Elitheni to become established as a fully operational mining company. Elitheni is the first operating coal mine in the Eastern Cape after many years. The achievement of this milestone enables IPSA Group PLC, the AIM and AltX quoted power development company, to proceed with even greater confidence to expand their plans for increased power generation in South Africa’s Eastern Cape area.”

SNR applies for substantial increase in prospecting rights area in South Africa

AIM-quoted Strategic Natural Resources plc ( ” SNR ” or the “Company”) ) is pleased to announce that its 74% owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty . ) Ltd (”Elitheni Coal”) in South Africa has received acceptance from the DME for an additional prospecting rights application , which will almost double their existing prospecting area s in South Africa.

Elitheni Coal received acceptance from the DME for the submission of its Phase 4 prospecting rights application on 22 July 200 8 . This prospecting application adds a further 30,000 ha on fourteen farms in the Eastern Cape adjacent to its existing prospecting area s . Once granted, t his would increase the area over which Elitheni Coal has prospecting rights to in excess of 60 , 000 ha.

Elitheni Coal has currently dete rmined a measured resource of over 25 million tonnes on less than fifteen per cent of the land covered by it's existing prospecting licences . Predictions from the on site technical team, including an independent mining consultants’ assessment , is that th is entire area has the potential, through extrapolation, to yield in excess of 200 million tonnes of extractable coal. The operations team in South Africa recommended the additional Phase 4 prospecting area based on favourable drilling results received so far this year, which indicate an extension of the coal seam on areas bordering the Phase 1& 2 area s . The operations team believe s that the addition of Phase 4 could take the extractable tonnes available to over 300 million tonnes . AIM and AltX quot ed IPSA Group PLC confirm s that such a figure of extractable tonnes could supply power generation of over 3,5 00 MW for over twenty years.

Highlights:

Operations have focussed on Elitheni’s drilling programme and mining rights application submission;

We expect to initiate mining under this permit in July and will supply a number of customers in the local brick manufacturing and domestic supply markets over the next five months. This will be a significant milestone for the Company as it will enable us to initiate revenue generation pending the grant of permission to commence our underground mining, which is expected in November. This firmly positions SNR as a production company, not one focused purely on exploration.

Although Group losses arose as expected during this investment phase, it is extremely pleasing to be able to report a series of strong moves forward during the period.”

SNR Subsidiary Secures Liketh Union (PTY) Limited as its BEE Partner

Strategic Natural Resources PLC announces that its subsidiary, Acharnian Mining Company Limited (“AML”), has completed the sale of a 21 per cent. interest in Elitheni Coal (Pty.) Limited (“Elitheni Coal”), the holder of the coal prospecting rights over the Elitheni Area, to Liketh Union (Pty) Limited (“Liketh”), a group of broadly-based black economic empowerment (“BEE”) interests led by VUWA Investment (Pty) Limited (“Vuwa”). The consideration is approximately UK £3.972 million, payable as to ZAR 10 million in cash now (approximately £640,000) and the balance of approximately £3.253 million is to remain outstanding on a loan account with AML and shall be paid in ZAR together with interest at the then effective exchange rate on or before 12th December 2008.

At the same time Christopher Mazizandile Msutu, an entrepreneur specialising in municipality relationships, has completed the purchase of 5 per cent. interest in Elitheni Coal for approximately £945,000 which amount shall remain outstanding on a loan account with AML and shall be paid in ZAR together with interest at the then effective exchange rate on or before 31st May 2009. Christopher Msutu’s purchase also includes a 3 per cent. interest in Elitheni Coal which, it was previously reported, was proposed to be sold to a trust representing the local community, However, the community represented by the local municipality have agreed to a royalty per tonne as opposed to a shareholding. The terms of this royalty are being negotiated but will comprise pre-tax royalty payments which will not exceed a 3per cent. equivalent of the dividend stream of Elitheni Coal.

SNR anticipates that it will recognise a profit on the sale of this share stake. The proceeds will be used to increase the level of drilling on SNR’s newly enlarged exploration area and to fund existing working capital requirements.

The completion of the aforementioned transactions gives Elitheni Coal a 26% BEE holding, which is one of the final outstanding requirements for the granting of the mining licence by the DME. Consequently the Board of SNR now anticipates that the Company will meet all of the tests required for Elitheni Coal to be granted a mining licence.

Liketh is a BEE investment company that has been created specifically to invest in mining businesses. African Pioneer Ltd (“APL”) our original lead BEE investment group has withdrawn in favour of Liketh on the grounds that Liketh are better placed to support the further development of Elitheni Coal.

Measured Resource more than Trebled

SNR is pleased to announce that its subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd (”Elitheni”), has confirmed a substantial increase to its measured coal resource at Indwe in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.

SNR announced on 4 September 2007 that its measured coal resource for Elitheni’s Phase 1 and 2 coal prospecting areas had increased from 6.68 million tonnes at the time of listing to 10.1 million tonnes, an increase of 51%. The latest drilling results under SAMREC rules and confirmed by William van der Schyff from the Company’s Consultant Geologists, Golder Associates Africa (Pty) Ltd (”Golder”), have upgraded the measured resource for Elitheni’s Phase 1 and 2 coal prospecting areas to 24 million tonnes, which is a further increase of 137%. In addition, following early drilling results from Elitheni’s Phase 3 coal prospecting area, Golder has confirmed a measured resource for this area of 1.8 million tonnes.

This announcement follows the recent announcements that Elitheni has now obtained the necessary mining permit to commence opencast production for 1,5ha of Elitheni’s Phase 1 & 2 coal prospecting area and that the Mining Rights Environmental Management Programme (‘’EMP’’) has been completed and accepted by the South African Department of Minerals & Energy (‘’DME’’).

The information regarding Elitheni’s coal reserves in this announcement has been reviewed and approved by Willem van der Schyff BSc (Hons), Senior Resource Geologist and full time employee of Golder, the Company’s consultant geologists. Mr van der Schyff has 17 years industry experience in resource estimation and classification on coal, base metals, iron ore, heavy minerals and industrial minerals and is a Member of the Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA) and the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (Pr Sci Nat). Mining Right EMP Complete and Accepted by DME

AIM-quoted Strategic Natural Resources plc (SNR) is pleased to announce that it’s wholly owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Limited, has met all original and legislated timelines imposed on it by the South African Department of Minerals & Energy (DME), through the completion and submission of its Mining Right Environmental Management Programme (EMP).

The EMP is a key requirement of the Mining Rights Application and SNR Chief Operations Officer, David Nel, advised: “This is the most arduous component of the Mining Rights Application process and to meet this deadline successfully and in a timely manner, is a huge achievement for Elitheni”.

SNR will receive the record of decision on this EMP on 10th September 2008. This will be one of the final decisions required of the DME prior to the granting of the 30 year underground Mining Right.

This announcement follows a recent announcement that Elitheni has now obtained the necessary mining permit to commence opencast production for 1,5ha of Elitheni’s Phase 1 & 2 coal prospecting area.

Coal Mining Permit Granted

Strategic Natural Resources PLC announces that its subsidiary Elitheni Coal (Pty) Limited (”Elitheni”) has received written confirmation from the South African Department of Minerals and Energy (”DME”) that it has been granted the necessary mining permit to commence opencast production on an identified 1,5ha area of Elitheni’s Phase 1&2 coal prospecting area.

This initial 1,5ha is expected to yield circa 50,000 tonnes of saleable coal, which will be mined and supplied in 2008. Not only will this generate revenue for Elitheni, but it also fulfils a direct commitment made by SNR that production would commence prior to obtaining the long term Mining Right.

Elitheni intends to extend its production underground once it receives further clearance from the DME. Application has been made for the underground section adjacent to the granted 1.5ha area and the Record of Decision (‘’ROD’’) is expected from the DME in November 2008. Because the two project sites are adjacent to one another, the company anticipates that site preparation work for the underground mining will be reduced to a minimum and that it will allow for uninterrupted production from the open cast area].

Elitheni is currently finalising mining and off take contracts and resolution of a permit to use state owned land which forms part of the completion of the site establishment,.SNR hopes to be able to announce the commencement of the opencast production within the next two months.

SNR Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Metcalfe said: “The commencement of mining will transform SNR’s primary asset, Elitheni, into a production company pivotally placed in South Africa to meet the growing needs of the current coal and energy shortage. 274% Increase In Extractable Coal Reserves

On the 10th October 2007, SNR reported extractable run-of-mine (’ROM’) reserves of 5.5 million tonnes on which its subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd (’Elitheni’), based its mining rights application.

SNR is pleased to report a 274% increase of its ROM reserve to an estimated 15.05 million tonnes as confirmed by Golder Associates Africa (Pty) Ltd whose update to the current resource and reserve estimates was received on the 12th of February 2008. The update is based on additional data supplied by Elitheni.

To date only 1,100 hectares of the 9,283 hectares of the Phase 1 & 2 prospecting area has been drilled, the remaining area will continue to be drilled through 2008. Drilling of the Phase 3 area, which covers some 27,000 hectares, will commence in late February 2008.

SNR has informed IPSA Group PLC, the AIM- and AltX-quoted independent power company with whom it has entered into a framework coal supply agreement, that it now has sufficient ROM reserves to enter into a fuel supply agreement for the first 250 MW unit. IPSA has informed the Company that a 250 MW coal-fired unit requires 1 million tonnes of coal from Elitheni per annum for the project to be financed, since project debt should be repaid well-within the life of the coal supply contract.

Board Appointment

The Board of Strategic Natural Resources PLC announces that it has appointed Mr David John Nel to the Board of SNR as Chief Operating Officer (COO”).

The appointment of Mr Nel (aged 35), whose extensive mining industry experience will further strengthen the SNR Board, comes as the Company prepares to step up its operations at its coal prospect at Indwe in South Africa’s Eastern Cape.

Mr Nel is currently the commercial director of SNR’s principal operating subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Limited (“Elitheni”). He is also a director of Eastgen (Pty) Limited and Westgen (Pty) Limited, both of which are currently not actively trading; and Southern Cape Corridor Power (Pty) Limited, a South African company created in 2006 in order to seek out and develop opportunities in the local mining and energy sector. Aside from these directorships, Mr Nel has not held any additional directorships over the past five years.

Mr Nel has 13 years’ mining industry experience, seven of which have been spent building Elitheni along with Barry Nel, SNR’s Commercial Director. Previously, he spent six years in Accenture (South Africa) (Pty) Limited’s Global Business Consultancy Resources Market Unit. Whilst with Accenture, Mr Nel was involved in the project management of a number of large consulting projects in the South African mining industry. Mr Nel started his career at Coalnet (Pty) Limited (“Coalnet”), where his responsibilities included operational management and business development. Coalnet was formed to assist independent junior mining operations with the marketing and distribution of their coal as well as to generate the development of green and brownfield coal resources for niche markets.

Through both Elitheni and Coalnet, Mr Nel has had hands on experience in the development of medium sized coal mining operations and related activities including, the sales and distribution of coal for various independent coal producers. With the combined experience of business consulting to the South African mining industry, added to his operational and marketing experience in Elitheni, Mr Nel has demonstrated the perfect qualification to become COO of SNR.

Mr Nel holds a Masters degree in Commerce from the University of Johannesburg having obtained his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of South Africa.

Speaking in London, Jeremy Metcalfe, CEO of SNR, said “ This is a key appointment and will strengthen the SNR Board considerably. David Nel is very talented and is a welcome addition to our Board.”

SNR subsidiary secures BEE partners

Strategic Natural Resources PLC announces that its subsidiary, Acharnian Mining Company Limited (’AML’), has signed a sale and purchase agreement to sell 23 per cent. of its interest in Elitheni Coal (Pty.) Limited (’Elitheni Coal’), the holder of the coal prospecting rights over the Elitheni Area, to a broadly based black economic empowerment (’BEE’) group of investors. The consideration is approximately UK £4.4 million (ZAR 60.4 million at an agreed exchange rate of ZAR13.6854 : £1), payable in ZAR upon completion, on or before 28th February 2008.

SNR anticipates that it will recognise a profit on the sale of this share stake to the amount of approximately £3.8 million. The proceeds will be used to increase the level of drilling on the newly enlarged exploration area and to fund existing working capital requirements.

A further 3 per cent. of Elitheni Coal will be sold to a trust representing the local community. The Company is in the process of completing this transaction and further updates will be provided once it has been concluded.

The completion of the aforementioned transactions is expected to give Elitheni Coal a 26% BEE shareholder base, which is one of the final outstanding requirements for the granting of the mining licence by the South African Department of Minerals and Energy. Consequently the Board of SNR now anticipates that the Company will meet all of the tests required for Elitheni Coal to be granted a mining licence.

Accordingly this is a very significant milestone in the development of Elitheni Coal from being merely a prospective coal resource to becoming a coal-producing mining operation.

Elitheni Coal’s new BEE partners are African Pioneer Limited (’APL’) (21% shareholder) and Christopher Mazizandile Msutu (2% shareholder).

APL was formed in 1990 as a private investment company to take advantage of the major changes about to take place at that time in South Africa. At its early stages APL, through its wholly owned subsidiaries, engaged in a number of retail, distribution and logistics businesses in the black townships and coloured areas. Through a policy of pragmatic and progressive business management, the company has expanded substantially and now has a large shareholder base of almost 100 individuals who are predominantly from the black communities of the Eastern Cape.

Exploration licence over further 15,900 hectares granted

Strategic Natural Resources PLC announces that its subsidiary Elitheni Coal (Pty) Limited (“Elitheni”) has received written confirmation from the South African Department of Minerals and Energy (“DME”) that it has been granted an exploration right for coal over the Phase 3 property of approximately 15,900 hectares, near the town of Indwe in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. This exploration right is in addition to the existing exploration right (divided for drilling purposes into two areas, Phase 1 and Phase 2), which covers an area of 9,283 hectares.

The Company listed on AIM on the basis of a resource under Elitheni’s control of approximately 15 million tonnes of coal in the Phase 1 and Phase 2 areas. Subsequent drilling raised the resource figure by 25 million tonnes to approximately 40 million tonnes. Elitheni will continue drilling Phases 1 and 2 whilst preparing its exploration plan for Phase 3. It is envisaged that a number of the contracted drilling rigs will be deployed on the new licenced area, once the exploration plan has been finalised.

Jeremy Metcalfe SNR’s Chief Executive said: “ The granting of the Phase 3 exploration licence nearly doubles our property under licence and provides the opportunity to increase our identified resource base much further.”

IPSA has announced fast track Elitheni Clean Coal Power Plant Development

Strategic Natural Resources PLC (“SNR”) announces that it has been informed by the directors of IPSA Group PLC (“IPSA”), the developer of independent power plants in southern Africa, that it is to accelerate the development of a Clean Coal-fired power plant at Indwe in the Eastern Cape of South Africa with a view to the early generation of 250 MW of the plant’s proposed 500 MW power capacity.

IPSA is to oversee the development of the Clean Coal-fired power plant which will involve combining high pressure steam turbines with fluidised bed combustion boilers. The plant is eventually proposed to have no less than 500 MW of power capacity.

SNR has completed an initial drilling programme which, together with historical data, has satisfied IPSA that SNR’s commercially exploitable coal reserves justify a mine mouth plant of no less than 500 MW.

Under its accelerated development plan for the plant and the generation of the first 250 MW, IPSA is looking to acquire existing equipment for conversion to meet the precise coal specifications of the coal to be mined at the proposed Elitheni Coal Mine. IPSA is working now in partnership with Exodus Africa LLC, a Houston based energy group led by former executives of Enron.

Chairman’s Statement

It gives me great pleasure to present to shareholders the first set of interim results for Strategic Natural Resources PLC (’SNR’) since it was admitted to AIM in August, 2007 and to report on the progress being made by your Company.

Immediately prior to the flotation on 7th August 2007, 10 million Ordinary shares in SNR were placed at 30p per share raising a total of £3 million for the Company. At admission there were 65 million Ordinary shares in issue giving a market capitalisation of £19.5 million at the placing price. The current share price is 32p per share which reflects the continuing confidence of our investors.

The Company, through its subsidiary Elitheni Coal (Pty.) Limited (’Elitheni’), is engaged in the exploration for and extraction of coal in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. Elitheni’s current prospecting area comprises approximately 9,000 hectares under current prospecting licences and a further 16,000 hectares are subject to a prospecting rights application.

Commercial production is expected to commence in approximately 12 months time. The primary market for our coal will be a state of the art, independent coal-fired power plant of 500 MW which is planed for construction at the mouth of the Indwe mine. It is anticipated that this plant, which will be developed, owned and operated by IPSA Group PLC (’IPSA’) with whom the Company has entered into a framework agreement for supply, will consume 2.2 million tonnes per annum of coal extracted from our mine. IPSA is quoted on the AIM Market and on the Alternative Exchange of the JSE Limited (’AltX’).

Our coal will also be supplied to the industrial heat and power market, with a planned IPSA development near East London (SA) for Da Gama Textiles, and to the metallurgical market, with a new ferromanganese smelter under development at Coega near Port Elizabeth (SA).

Other markets that will be supplied from the Elitheni mine are the local brick manufacturing industry and the domestic household market.

The Company was admitted to AIM on the basis of a coal resource of some 15 million tonnes. We have since continued our drilling programme, raising the resource to some 40 million tonnes, having drilled only 4 per cent. of the area under licence. Drilling is continuing, with four rigs currently on site. Further increases of resource tonnage are expected to be announced over the coming
months as the drilling rate is stepped up, as planned.

It is a well publicised fact that there is an acute shortage of electrical power capacity serving South Africa’s domestic and industrial sectors and that the price of the sector’s primary energy source, coal, is rising rapidly (Eskom, the South African para-statal electric utility reported an increase in coal costs of 30 per cent. in its 2006/7 financial year). Most of the existing large scale power plants and coal mines are situated in the northern part of South Africa close to Johannesburg and Pretoria. Much power is lost in the transmission lines before reaching the southern half of the country. Elitheni therefore has a distinct advantage in that its coal is located almost 900km to the south of the northern coal reef. Furthermore, its low volatile content make Elitheni coal well suited for use in a clean coal fluidised bed boiler system.

SNR has completed an application to South Africa’s Department of Minerals and Energy (’the DME’) to begin mining 5.5 million tonnes of coal. I am delighted to announce today that this application has now been accepted and extraction rights are expected to be granted in 12 months time following the completion of a number of steps required by the DME including an environmental impact study and the conclusion of a placing of a total of 26% of Elitheni shares into the hands of Black Economic Empowerment (’BEE’) shareholders.

I am pleased to say that we are at an advanced stage in the negotiations for completing our BEE commitment.

Your Company has a highly professional team in place which has considerable managerial, geological, coal extraction and marketing expertise. They have worked and continue to work very hard and cohesively as a team over the testing times before actual mining commences on site with the resultant cash flow from coal sales. They are also seeking to broaden the acreage of the Elitheni mine with new prospecting licences on land adjacent to the existing 25,000 hectares over which Elitheni currently holds licences or has submitted an application for a licence. I am confident that your Company will continue to progress and develop as more coal reserves are added.

the issuer or underlying issuer, provided it is reliable and accurate.
(iii) This should be the full name of (a) the shareholder; (b) the person
acquiring, disposing of or exercising voting rights in the cases provided for in
DTR5.2.1 (b) to (h); (c) all the parties to the agreement referred to in
DTR5.2.1 (a), or (d) the direct or indirect holder of financial instruments
entitled to acquire shares already issued to which voting rights are attached,
as appropriate.
In relation to the transactions referred to in points DTR5.2.1 (b) to (h), the
following list is provided as indication of the persons who should be mentioned:
- in the circumstances foreseen in DTR5.2.1 (b), the person that acquires the
voting rights and is entitled to exercise them under the agreement and the
natural person or legal entity who is transferring temporarily for consideration
the voting rights;
- in the circumstances foreseen in DTR 5.2.1 (c), the person holding the
collateral, provided the person or entity controls the voting rights and
declares its intention of exercising them, and person lodging the collateral
under these conditions;
- in the circumstances foreseen in DTR5.2.1(d), the person who has a life
interest in shares if that person is entitled to exercise the voting rights
attached to the shares and the person who is disposing of the voting rights when
the life interest is created;
- in the circumstances foreseen in DTR5.2.1 (e), the parent undertaking and,
provided it has a notification duty at an individual level under DTR 5.1, under
DTR5.2.1 (a) to (d) or under a combination of any of those situations, the
controlled undertaking;
- in the circumstances foreseen in DTR5.2.1 (f), the deposit taker of the
shares, if he can exercise the voting rights attached to the shares deposited
with him at his discretion, and the depositor of the shares allowing the deposit
taker to exercise the voting rights at his discretion;
- in the circumstances foreseen in DTR5.2.1 (g), the person that controls the
voting rights;
- in the circumstances foreseen in DTR5.2.1 (h), the proxy holder, if he can
exercise the voting rights at his discretion, and the shareholder who has given
his proxy to the proxy holder allowing the latter to exercise the voting rights
at his discretion.
(iv) Applicable in the cases provided for in DTR 5.2.1 (b) to (h). This should
be the full name of the shareholder who is the counterparty to the natural
person or legal entity referred to in DTR5.2.
(v) The date of the transaction should normally be, in the case of an on
exchange transaction, the date on which the matching of orders occurs; in the
case of an off exchange transaction, date of the entering into an agreement.
The date on which threshold is crossed should normally be the date on which the
acquisition, disposal or possibility to exercise voting rights takes effect (see
DTR 5.1.1R (3)). For passive crossings, the date when the corporate event took
effect.
(vi) Please refer to the situation disclosed in the previous notification, In
case the situation previous to the triggering transaction was below 3%, please
state ‘below 3%’.
(vii) If the holding has fallen below the minimum threshold , the notifying
party should not be obliged to disclose the extent of the holding, only that the
new holding is less than 3%.
For the case provided for in DTR5.2.1(a), there should be no disclosure of
individual holdings per party to the agreement unless a party individually
crosses or reaches an Article 9 threshold. This applies upon entering into,

Initial mining plan completed (in order to commence mining) for 5.5million tonnes of coal

Strategic Natural Resources PLC (’SNR’), the coal and energy investment group positioned to help ease South Africa’s long term energy crisis, has confirmed that its 90% owned subsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Limited, has completed an initial mining plan for submission to the South African Department of Minerals & Energy (’DME’). This initial mining plan has been prepared in order to economically extract 5.5 million tonnes of coal from the Elitheni Phase 1 area, being the tonnage required for the initial 5 years of production for Elitheni. Whilst, Elitheni will continue, through further drilling, to convert its inferred resource base into an indicated and measured resource for mine planning purposes, this initial mining plan is significant as it provides the foundation for Elitheni’s application to the DME for mining authorisation and will allow Elitheni to service its initial markets until the commencement of supply to the proposed mine mouth independent power plant.

The area covered by the initial mining plan represents less than 4% of the current Phase 1 & 2 area available to Elitheni to mine. According to current drilling progression as confirmed by the Competent Person and as previously announced, the Phase 1 & 2 area has a resource of approximately 40 million tonnes (comprising 10.1 million tonnes measured coal resource, 1.9 million tonnes indicated coal resource and 28.1 million tonnes inferred coal resource) of coal.

Extraction of the 5.5m tonnes will follow on immediately after the bulk sampling of 90,000 tonnes to provide continuity of sales revenue.

SNR Chief Executive, Jeremy Metcalfe, commented: ‘The successful completion of our initial Elitheni mining plan is a milestone achievement because a portion of the initial measured resource has now been elevated to a proven reserve with the evidence of a viable mining plan, thereby allowing Elitheni to cross the divide from an exploration company to become that of an operating coal mining company’.

Detail of Coal Reserve Audit

William van der Schyff, from the Company’s consultant geologists and producers of the Competent Person’s Report (CPR), Golder Associates Africa (Pty) Ltd, confirms that Golder used the original 50×50m block model as reported in 10231/ 9399/2/G to include the variables as reported in the Elitheni mine design parameter file. The block centres of the 250×250m blocks were used as the basis for the variable assignment ‘nearest neighbour’ method. By this method the basic mining assumptions from the Elitheni reserve model were included in the Golder model enabling the assay variables and area of the Golder model to be used for confirmation of the initial reserve calculation as follows:

Increase in Coal Resource

Strategic Natural Resources plc (”SNR”) is pleased to announce that its 90% owned subsidiary Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd (”Elitheni”) has confirmed a substantial increase to its coal resource at Indwe in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.

SNR recently listed on AIM on the basis that the resource at the time of listing amounted to approximately 15M tonnes of coal resources, comprising 6.68M tonnes of measured coal resources, 2.45M tonnes of indicated coal resources and 5.92 M tonnes of inferred coal resources.

The latest drilling results under SAMREC rules, as confirmed by William van der Schyff from the Company’s Consultant Geologists Golder Associates Africa (Pty) Ltd (”Golder”), have upgraded the resource for the Phase 1 and 2 areas to approximately 40M tonnes of coal, comprising 10.1 M tonnes of measured coal resource, 1.9M tonnes of indicated coal resource and 28.1 M tonnes of inferred coal resources in situ. The block model size was 50m x 50m x 1m grid.

Jeremy Metcalfe, SNR’s Chief Executive, said “This is an excellent start. An increase of approximately 25M tonnes in such a relatively short time can only be regarded as most encouraging.”

It is anticipated that the majority of the coal extracted will be used in electricity generation and industrial boilers through the use of clean coal combustion technology.

Jeremy Metcalfe has a track record as a financier, marketer and promoter. Barry William Nel, Commercial Director

Barry Nel is the founder of Elitheni and is involved in the South African coal and energy supply sector. He was a founder of Trans Tugela Coal (Pty) Ltd in 1976 which was South Africa’s first independent coal mining operation. The business grew to three medium sized collieries and captured 35 per cent. of the Natal industrial coal market. He formed Coalnet in 1990 to focus on joint ventures with coal users such as the successful joint venture between Coalnet and Vakbel of Turkey, which involved exporting 2.5Mt of South African coal to Turkey. Since 1999, he has committed himself and all his resources to the full time task of establishing Elitheni.

Elizabeth Ruth Shaw, Executive Finance Director

Elizabeth Shaw has been involved in the electricity sector since 1994 when she joined Fieldstone Private Capital Group (UK) Limited. Between 1994 and 2000, as a director of Fieldstone, she advised on a number of mergers, acquisitions and disposals in the electricity industry, both in the UK and in developing markets. Prior to joining Fieldstone, she was involved in the financing of small to medium sized companies in the UK, including raising equity for both listed and unlisted companies. She joined Independent Power Corporation PLC as a director in 2000 where she is responsible for business development and finance. She is also an executive director and founder of Rurelec PLC and of IPSA Group PLC. She is a graduate of Exeter University.

Peter Richard Stephen Earl, Non-Executive Director

Peter Earl began his career at the Boston Consulting Group Inc. advising state-owned companies. He has advised ministries of finance and central banks in Abu Dhabi, Albania, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. He was previously CEO of Tranwood PLC and The Carter Organisation Inc. in New York. In 1994 he acted on secondment to the World Bank and UNDP in Bolivia. He has advised governments on privatisations in Latin America and Eastern Europe having served as Deputy Chairman for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe infrastructure finance group. He became a director of Fieldstone Private Capital Group UK Limited in London in 1994, where he advised on cross-border power sector acquisitions and bids totalling approximately US$6 billion, involving 5,000 MW of installed generating capacity. In 1995 he founded Independent Power Corporation PLC, and is also a founder and executive director of Rurelec PLC and of IPSA Group PLC. He is also a non-executive director of Blomfield Street Securities Limited and of Hichens Harrison (South America) Limited, both being subsidiaries of Hichens Harrison. He is the author of a European textbook on cross-border takeovers. He is an Oxford University graduate and was a Kennedy Scholar at Harvard University.

Robert Myles Randal MacDonnell, Non-Executive Director

Randal MacDonnell was a Partner of Laurie Milbank & Co Stockbrokers, stockbroker partnership for 16 years until it was taken over by Chase Manhattan Bank (subsequently JPMorgan Chase & Co.) in 1985. He was head of the institutional equity department raising money for underwritings, placings and rights issues, as well as conducting normal stock exchange business. In 1986 he was appointed a Director of Chase Manhattan Securities Limited where he remained for four years. He subsequently became a director of Credit Lyonnais Securities Limited and in 1994 was appointed a Director of Kleinwort Benson Securities Limited primarily dealing with small companies. Prior to becoming a member of the London Stock Exchange in 1965 he was commissioned in the 9th/12th Royal Lancers. He is currently a non-executive director of PipeHawk plc.

Strategic Natural Resources PLC (the ‘Company’ or ‘SNR’) was established in October 2004 as a vehicle to develop, own and manage natural resource extraction enterprises in southern Africa. Acharnian Mining Ltd (incorporated in the British Virgin Islands), a wholly owned subsidiary of SNR and intermediate holding company, owns 90 per cent. of the share capital of Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd (incorporated in South Africa).

The principal asset of Elitheni Coal (Pty) Ltd (‘Elitheni’) is the phase 1 and phase 2 prospecting right, which gives Elitheni the right to prospect for coal over these areas. The phase 1 and phase 2 area covers 9,283.80 ha in the Gubahoek / Macubeni area of the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa and the prospecting right gives the Company the exclusive right to apply for and be granted a mining right for coal over the phase 1 and 2 area. On 6 March 2007, Elitheni submitted an application for a prospecting right on further land in the Gubahoek / Macubeni area, to the extent of 15,922.86 ha (to be the phase 3 area). Subject to the grant and registration of the phase 3 prospecting right, anticipated to be in the final quarter of 2007, Elitheni will have rights to prospect for coal over a total of 25,206.66 ha.

The competent person’s report confirms that the phase 1 area, over which prospecting is complete, has a resource of 15Mt of coal, comprising 6.68Mt of Measured Coal Resources, 2.45Mt of Indicated Coal Resources and 5.92Mt of Inferred Coal Resources.

Elitheni has commenced the work required for the submission of the phase 1 and 2 area mining right application and, subject to increasing and maintaining its Historically Disadvantaged South African (‘HDSA’) shareholder base to the minimum regulatory requirement of 26 per cent., expects to submit the application during the third quarter of 2007. Based on this planned submission date, the granting of the mining right is expected to be in the third quarter of 2008.

Subject to the phase 3 area prospecting activities showing adequate reserves, the Directors plan to submit the mining right application for the phase 3 area before the end of 2008, in order to commence mining in 2009.

It is anticipated there will be strong demand for Elitheni’s coal from several markets, predominantly the Indwe Power Plant and the Da Gama Textile Plant. Both of these projects are planned by IPSA, the independent power generation company quoted on both AIM and Johannesburg’s junior AltX market.

Elitheni’s coal can also be used as a reductant within the metallurgical industry, an additive and primary energy source for the brick-making industry; and fuel for domestic consumption.

Power generation in South Africa is currently dominated by the State-owned electricity generator and supplier, Eskom, which currently generates around 95 per cent. of the country’s installed generating capacity. The South African electricity system is currently suffering from a severe reduction in reserve capacity since electricity consumption has far outstripped anticipated production growth levels and no significant new generation capacity has been added to Eskom’s generation base for a number of years. Areas of the Western Cape have been experiencing blackouts and brownouts over the past two years.

In line with South Africa’s Black Empowerment Act, 26% of Elitheni’s shares must be held by HDSAs in order that the company can be granted and retain a mining right. At present, two investors whom the Directors believe to be HDSAs, hold in aggregate, 10% of Elitheni. The company is in negotiations with HDSAs wishing to acquire additional shares, and The Directors anticipate that after admission to AIM, but prior to an application for the mining right over the Phase 1 and 2 Area, HDSA investors will acquire shares taking the holding to the required 26% level. SNR’s interest in, Elitheni will accordingly decrease to 74%.

Increased Prospecting Rights

Strategic Natural Resources PLC is pleased to announce that the exclusive phase three prospecting right,recently granted to its South African subsidiary company Elitheni Coal (Pty) Limited (‘’Elitheni’’), by the South African Department of Minerals and Energy (‘’DME’’), has been executed, notarised and lodged for registation over an area totalling 27,913.4ha. This represents an increase of 12,013ha over the original area of 15,900ha, which was applied for and granted by the DME.

The prospecting right will remain in force for five years and drilling operations in this area will commence in January 2008. Further updates will be provided following developments.

Elitheni now have the exclusive prospecting rights to coal in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, for exploration and conversion to mining over an area of 37, 197.04ha. This is an increase of 300% of the original prospecting rights area of 9,283.8ha that had been granted to Elitheni at the time of SNR’s listing in August 2007.

The new territory over which the group has exclusivity is expected to add considerably to the coal resource which will eventually be put into commercial production. The Board of SNR believes that it will allow a further future expansion of the 500 MW of mine mouth clean coal power development currently planned for Indwe under SNR’s agreements with IPSA Group PLC.

Speaking today about the DME grant of new prospecting rights, Barry Nel, Commercial Director of SNR, said, “We recently announced that we had achieved an interim 40 million tonnes of coal on our first 9,000 hectare prospecting area having drilled less than 7 per cent. of that area. Now we nearly have an additional 28,000 hectares on which to drill. I cannot tell you how excited I am and what this means for all the communities of the Eastern Cape, which for years have been held back by lack of a local energy resource.”
